Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 1/2 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the mixture:

    • Take rice flour in a bowl.
    • Add salt and mix well.
    • Sprinkle water slowly and mix with your hand until the mix becomes soft and crumbly.
    • Keep it aside for 15 minutes.

  2. Prepare the steamer:

    • Fill a steamer with water and let it boil.
    • Meanwhile, take the cylindrical putu maker and layer it with grated coconut and jaggery (alternatively) such that it looks like a tube.
  3. Cook the putu:

    • Place a handful of rice flour mixture into the putu maker.
    • Press the putu maker at the top of the steamer.
    • Steam cook for 5-7 minutes or until the putu is cooked.
    • Remove the putu maker from the steamer.
    • Using a stick or another putu maker gently push the cooked putu out from the other end of the putu maker.
    • Repeat the process for the remaining rice flour mixture.
  4. Serve:

    • Place the putu on a serving plate and sprinkle some grated coconut on top.
    • Prepare coconut milk by mixing coconut milk and jaggery (optional).
    • Serve hot with coconut milk and banana.
